    Deed of Gift (dedimus, concessimus et hac presenti carta nostra confirmavimus) from John Aylston and John Fowke of Wootton to Thomas Rolle and Richard Lord of: (a) 1 messuage with croft with all its appurtenances (lying in le Hallehende of Wootton between the lane ('venella') called Wodehendelane on the one side and a croft of John Swayn on the other side divided in half by bounds/boundary-stones ('per[?] metas et bundas dimiditur') and shooting into ('lanceat') a croft of the Prior and Convent of Newnham ('Newenham') and Hugh atte Hulle and abutting upon the common headland (' communem foram') which the donors lately had by the gift and feoffment of John Bernard, now deceased. Habendum: the messuage and croft with hedges and ditches ('cum sepibus et fossatis') and all other appurtenances to TR and RL and their heirs and assigns to be held of the chief lords of that fee by the services thence owed and by right accustomed forever. Witnesses: William Fowke, John Palle senior, John Glyce et al. Dated at Wootton, 5 Nov 27 Hen. VI. (1448). Seals (on pendant tags; R.H. tag consists of strip of re-used parchment, some writing visible - mainly ?figure jottings and ?doodles, some writing discernible): L.H.- round, red wax, complete, shallow impression, design - quatrefoil R.H.- round, red wax, 2/3 missing, border (round) of design visible only. Dorse: inscribed '...Grant of messuage & Croft at Hallend, Wootton'.
