Deposition:John Sugar, Lower Shadwell, London, ship's carpenter. 9 Nov. 1678. Denies theft of 2 hats from Wm. Fenn at Elstow Fair. He found them between Elstow and Bedford. The Examination of John Sugar of Low Shadwell London Shipp Carpenter taken the ninth day of November Anno dni 1678 Annoque RR Caroli scdi nunc Anglia & c Tricesimo This Examinant beeing charged with the fellonious takeing of two Hatts the Goodes of Willm Fenn gent now Maior of the Towne of Bedford out of his Booth at Elstowe Faire within the said County in October last doth utterly deny the said Fellony but saith that hee found two Hatts comeing from the said Faire betwixt Elstow and Bedford And further saith not Taken and acknowledged The day and yeare first Above written before mee W Foster Signed John Sugar
