    Deposition:Thomas Walsum, Shefford, butcher. J.H., R.S., R.W., and E.A., quartered at his house, produced mutton which he suspected stolen. The Information of Thomas Walsum of Shefford bucher taken uppon Oath the 22th of Feb: last past before me John Ventris Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of peace for this County Anno Domini 1678 This Informant being duly sworne sayeth John Harris Robert Surcott Rich: Wright and Edward Arthur foure soldiers which did quarter at his house did uppon the 10th of Feb last past goe out of their Quarter about 9 or tenn of the clocke at night but in the morning weare in their Quarters, and that he seeing Rich Wright and Robert Surcott cut a Quarter of mutton in peices fit for the pot the said Informant askt them where they had it They answered at Bigelswade to which he replied he beleived not for noe bucher would cut out mutton for to leave the chine all of one side as that was, besides the mutton was very ill drest, and that uppon the 16 day of the month being Sunday Jack Parvill found three Quarters of mutton in a bag hid in the straw of which he informed John Austin hearing he had lost some sheepe and further sayth not John Ventris
