  • Title
Agneta, Tittenhanger to Baroness Grantham Describes a play enacted at Camden, including the costumes and her appraisal of the actors. The play was interrupted by a fire alarm, however the confusion was caused by two men fighting. A woman in the box above them tried to escape in the commotion by climbing over the front of the box, but could not let go. She dangled there until those above pulled her back into the box. She was fascinated by the confusion it caused behind the scenes, commenting, "the Figures which poured forth on the stage from behind the scenes, stripped of their glittering apparel cleansed from their paint and dispoiled of their powdered wigs, the women looked like witches, and the men like spectres, and one paler and more terrified than the rest I took to be Mr Sheridan".
