Waddilove, Ripon to Baroness Grantham, Whitehall, London He visited Newby Hall yesterday and reports upon the staffing situation there. He details the numbers of staff, and their wages, in the house, stable, gardens and plantation. Advises her that Mr Swales, steward of all the Craven estates, can give her a more accurate account of the property. He has not seen Mr Chippendale, but the instructions with regard to the inventory have been communicated to him.
