Scott, Ems to Baroness Grantham, Whitehall, London Asks her to write to her soon, and tell her when she intends to leave for Putney. They are leaving today, from Swalbach, where Elizabeth and Maria have taken baths. The weather has been damp, and she will be glad when they have travelled across the Alps. They have found Ems comfortable, and enjoyed the company of a Russian family; a Prince and Princess Medtersiky. The Prince had to seek the Emperor of Russia's permission to take leave. They had their son with them, and a niece, who played with her daughters, and they hope to see them again in Italy. They were pleased that the Russian army had marched to Constantinople without any bloodshed. They also met several Poles, and comments, "the more I see of Foreigners and their Governments the more I rejoice that we belong to England". She also thinks they made their way more easily across the continent as they are cousins of Sir Walter Scott. Mentions Prince Leopold is also taking the water at Ems. They are travelling to Geneva, then on to Basle.
