- TitleFrederick, Admiralty to Baroness Grantham Discusses the termination of the negotiations to get Canning into Government. He had an interview with Lord Liverpool, to discuss Ireland. He told him he would not be willing to accept the post, [as Lord Lieutenant for Ireland]. He then asked if he would prefer to transfer from the Admiralty to the Treasury. He told him he would not be willing to transfer, as he would have to give up his seat in Parliament; commenting, "I could not consider myself any degree elevated by acceding to it". He assumes there are no vacancies in the Privy Councillor's office equal to his current situation, and does not believe he will be promoted at the moment. He will talk to Castlereagh about his future prospects.
