Mr Mackenzie found rooms for them at a hotel on their arrival in Edinburgh. He is extremely impressed with the city, and they also visited Rosslyn castle and chapel. On Monday they set off for Glasgow, passing through Lanark and Bonniton. His companion, Alfred, has strained his instep, and had to consult a surgeon at Edinburgh. His diagnosis was gout, until Alfred told him of his "temperate mode of living". They visited Hamilton and Rothwell castle. They are setting out for loch lomond tomorrow.
