    Fitzherbert, Paris to Grantham (private) Fitzherbert feels his appointment is an "honourable mark of distinction". Vergennes resolved matters should stand still until the arrival of Grantham's proposals regarding the Newfoundland Fishery. The Spanish Ambassador has not received full powers - even if he had, Fitzherbert doubts if any formal propositions would be possible due to present attack upon Gibraltar. This Court has received some official accounts of an action in the East Indies between Sir E. Hughes and M. D'Verves on about 20th March. Two British captains killed and one French. M. de Baville' still at Paris but he is to set out in a day or two for Brest in order to embark on board a frigate for Martinieo.
