  • Title
Elliot, Berlin to Grantham, St. James's (marked 'B', private and secret) Prince Henry was under the impression that Elliot would leave the foreign line and attach himself to Prince Henry's court. Elliot never had any intention of leaving the service of his country. Prince Henry believes that a good understanding between Austria and Prussia is most advantageous to each other and that had his advice been followed important acquisitions might have been made by both powers on the death of the Elector of Bavaria and even in the present circumstances a "total dismemberment of the Empire might be effected by concurrence of Emperor and the King of Prussia". Such a coalition would not be practicable during the King's life but "in the next reign this great revolution will be completed".
