  • Title
Elliot, Copenhagen to Grantham, St. James's (private) Elliot thanks Grantham for his patronage. He has been employed in the foreign line for nearly 10 years and almost 6 at Berlin with a salary "very inadequate to the Expense of that mission". An increase in rank and pay had been promised as early as the Ministry of Lord Suffolk. Eden's return to England prevents Elliot from giving any details of internal relations or the situation at Court. "There is perfect confusion in every department" and the "consequences are not to be foreseen". It is the "Wish of all Good Men that the Prince Royal of Denmark may soon be called to fill the high station in Counsel His Birth entitles Him to". This is likely to take place next year or sooner. Praises the "manly deportment" of the prince and "amiable qualities" of the Princess Royal.
