    Harris, St. Petersburg to Grantham (private) Lady Harris is required to go to her sister in the South of France as Sir Gilbert Elliot is dangerously ill. Harris is deprived of the main and only correspondent he can rely on in London and requests whether Grantham's brother could be the person to communicate private matters with him. Sir Gilbert's illness has affected Harris greatly "a worthier man, with a righter head & true upright heart never existed". Harris wishes Grantham joy on Lady Grantham's pregnancy.
