- TitleGrantham, St. James's to Harris, St. Petersburg (draft, No 13) The King is ready to cultivate a "perfect union with the Court of Russia" and to support a plan which "if adopted during a War, must dictate the Terms & secure the Duration of a Peace". M. de Goertz's conduct is seen as proof that His Royal Master adopts the same views. The Prussian King has been treated with the "utmost confidence" and "pays the strictest Deference to His Engagements with Russia, & holds out that Her Consent to a Triple Alliance must be obtained first". The Empress is to be encouraged to adopt the idea of a Triple or Quadruple Alliance between Britain, herself, Prussia and Denmark. Russia's Court is to be sounded on the notion of the King of Prussia becoming a mediator. Grantham suggests the Empress might be interested in acquiring possessions in Spanish South America.
