    Administration and copy will of Margaret Garstin Testator: - Margaret Garstin, wife of Robert Garstin of Harrold, esquire, late Captain in Royal Artillery and now Captain in Bedfordshire Militia Reciting: - indenture of release or settlement of 7 May 1776 as in X284/8/1/1; - articles of agreement of 18 Oct 1792 between (1) Margaret Lee [later Garstin] of Harrold, devisee, residuary legatee and sole executrix of Sir Thomas Alston of Odell, baronet, deceased; (2) Robert Garstin; (3) Richard Haighton and Frederick Booth; RECITING intended marriage between (1) and (2) and that under the will of Sir Thomas Alston (1) was entitled to sums of 3,000 and 5,000 (originally raised as a portion of Rowland Alston, deceased, son of Margaret Lee and Sir Thomas Alston) and an annuity of 400 and to a mansion late of Sir Thomas Alston in Harrold with all coach houses, stables, offices, buildings, yards, gardens, orchards etc.and 30 acres of ground; also a small freehold estate in Stevington of yearly value of 3; also 14,100 capital stock in 3% consolidated bank annuities, 4,000 in 4% consolidated bank annuities and 3,000 in 3% reduced bank annuities. OPERATIVE PART: in consideration of the marriage: 10,000 to be raised and given to (2) for his own use; all other real and personal estate of (1), except for plate, china, linen, furniture etc. at Harrold House, conveyed to (3) in trust for sole use of (1) and, in the event of her death before (2) and in default of a will or other legal document, to stand seized of her financial assets and estate in Stevington in trust for her "only reputed and surviving son" son Thomas Alston; - transfer had been made of 14,100, 4,000 and 3,000 to Richard Haighton and Frederick Booth; Operative Part, leaving, on her death: - 3,000 to be paid to Frederick Booth of Craven Street, the Strand [Middlesex] and William Haselwood of Craven Street, the Strand, esquire on trust to be invested for the children of Thomas Alston, deceased, as tenants in common, except for his eldest son; - that the sums of 5,000 and 3,000 inherited from the late Rowland Alston be paid to Frederick Booth and William Haselwood in trust for the children of Thomas Alston, deceased, as tenants in common, except for his eldest son; but that Robert Garstin should receive the interest or rent from the invested sums during his life; - that the interest or rents from the invested monies and up to half the share of each son might be spent in their preferment, such as placing them in a trade, sending them to university, inn of court etc. or purchasing an army commission; - to Robert Garstin the estate in Stevington of annual value 3; - to Robert Garstin the sums of 14,100, 3,000 and 4,000 held in bank annuities, subject to payments of legacies and in lieu of the 10,000 due to Robert Garstin under the marriage settlement, allowing the sums of 3,000, 5.000 and 3,000 to be free of any claim by him; - Frederick Booth to be sole executor Witnesses: - Horatio Leggatt; clerk to Booth & Haselwood - William Slaughter, junior; clerk to Booth & Haselwood - Isaac Ward; clerk to Booth & Haselwood Extracted by William Fox Probate attached, granted to Robert Garstin in PCC, Frederick Booth having renounced probate and execution, on 29 Aug 1809
