There were a great number of persons present. Franklin said "For God's sake Smith lay hold of her" meaning Sarah Adams "or I shall be murdered". He pulled Adams away from the constable who then took Benjamin Brandom into custody; John Brandom ran away and was still at large. "The Constable appeared very much hurt and his face was all over blood - the Constable shew'd his staff".
