Title
'Articles of the peace exhibited in open court at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace of our Lord King George holden at the town of Bedford in and for the County of Bedford on Wednesday in the week next after Saint Thomas the Martyr the 11th day of July 1787 by Hugh King of Maulden in the County of Bedford farmer against John Carter of Maulden labourer.
Lancaster Cooper of Maulden aforesaid victualler on his corporal oath saith tht on Tuesday the twenty-sixth day of June last he did hear the above named John Carter say these words Dam you Woodcroft meaning Joseph woodcroft of Maulden aforesaid millwright you shall die before morning and King too (meaning the above named Hugh King).
And the above named Joseph Woodcroft on his corporal oath saith that he did hear the said John Carter on the said twenty-sixth day of June say the above words.
And the above named Hugh King on his corporal oath saith that he is in Danger of Death or some bodily hurt from the said John Carter and doth here in open court require sureties of the peace of the said John Carter not for any malice hatred or ill will but simply and purely that he is afraid that he the said John Carter will do him the said Hugh King some bodily mischief.'
