Report of assault on policemen by John Wells, James Jackson and others. Information of Frederick Warner, Labourer of Biggleswade who was at the Kings Arms during the Girtford Feast when there was a disturbance and the police were called. After being turned out Frederick Warner walked towards Biggleswade and stopped against some rails near Girtford Bridge. Stones were being thrown at the police. It was too dark for him to see who threw them. Report of PC James Watts who was on duty with PC Newton and PC Little. He was called to the Kings Arms to turn out Wells, Jackson and others. When they were outside the men started to make a disturbance and PC Watts advised them to go home. Jackson spit in his face and PC Watts pushed him down. Later the Police were going towards Girtford Bridge when, caught in the light from Frederick Ball's windows ,they were hit by stones coming in all directions. Report of PC Henry Little stationed at Blunham. He was on duty at the Girtford Festival and was called to assist at the Kings Arms. He was later with PCs Watts and Newton near Girtford Bridge. He saw Jackson spit in PC Watts' face. PC Little was in private clothes and passed Wells, Jackson and several others who were down on one knee in a line across the road. When he had passed them he heard several men say 'there the B's are give them it'. This was just as PCs Watts and Newton were in the light of a cottage. Wells, Jackson and the others then started to throw stones at PCs Watts and Newton. The stones were flying in all directions. PC Little walked up to the men and knocked several down. Sentenced: Wells 4 calendar months. Jackson 3 calendar months.
