  • Title
Report of Charles Payne, Baker of Arlesey. He was walking on his piece of ground by the side of the railway. He saw Albert Cox and Samuel Albone coming from Miss Georgianna Hailey's Orchard. They went through the hedge into the big close where the Parish dig stones and crossed the line. They then sat on the gate and Cox took apples from his pocket and put them into Albone's hat. Then Albone took the apples out of his pocket and put them into Cox's hat. Payne went towards the boys but they ran away. Albone left his hat on the ground full of apples. Cox caught up his hat and ran away. Several apples fell out. Payne said Albone could have his hat if he went to Miss Hailey's. Payne took the apples to Miss Hailey. At the Petty Sessional Division of Biggleswade Albone and Cox were sentenced to be imprisoned for one day and to be privately whipped 6 strokes with a birch rod.
