- TitleConviction of Ellen Ann Carr Hudson aged 13, Servant of Edward Twelvetrees, Builder of Biggleswade, for stealing 6 shillings from Mr Twelvetrees. Information of Edward Twelvetrees that as a consequence of having missing money from a drawer in his back office he marked 8 shillings, one florin, 5 pennies and one halfpenny with a similar mark. When some of the money went missing he found Hudson at Mrs Lilley's shop. She was buying biscuits. He returned home after buying a ball of string then went back to the shop and asked to see the shilling that Hudson had used. It was one of his marked shillings. At first Hudson denied taking the money but eventually she cried and showed Mr Twelvetrees where she had found a spare key for the drawer. He then called his Clerk, John Whtie, while he checked Hudson's purse where he found 5 of the marked shillings, one other shilling, a sixpence and two pennies. He handed Hudson to the Police. Fine 30/- or 1 month Hard labour.
