- TitleSummons issued to Charles and William Woodward of Upper Caldecote with George Eyre, Corner Cottage, Old Tollbar Warden and James Brunt of Upper Caldecote for unlawfully assaulting Wilson Bennison. Report of Wilson Bennison, Clerk of the Work at the New Mansions, Warden. He had gone across the parks to the road when alongside Mr Davies' house 2 men came out of a field. Both asked him for some beer. Bennison replied that men in full work should not be asking for beer. One of the men, Charles Woodward, said that he sometimes didn't get paid for the work he did. He had worked for Mr Shuttleworth and not been paid for it. Woodward made several remarks about Mr Shuttleworth and Bennison told him not to talk like that. Bennison then went into a field where they were building some cottages. When he returned to the road Woodward was waiting for him and started to spar round him and struck him on the hat. Bennison struck Woodward knocking him down. Bennison went on his way home with Woodward following calling for some mates. Several men came out of the field, 2 or 3 of whom were holding up hedge stakes. Bennison tried to dodge them and when Mrs Davies came by driving he went into her house and stayed there until the men went away. William Scott of Warden, swore that the 3 men were there. Only Woodward had a stick. Letter from Thomas Hooper Esq of The Park Farm, Old Warden. Brunt dismissed. Woodward and Eyre Bound Over
