  • Title
Summons issued to George Gray, Blacksmith of Beeston. Evidence of William Cooper, Publican and Market Gardener, of Beeston that George Gray had stolen some of his onions. Gray had left Cooper's house, together with Thomas Wagstaff but when Cooper went to the Coach House he heard the rustle of onions and saw Gray run away. Gray came back to the house later but denied having been there earlier. Evidence of Edward Freeman, Basket Maker of Beeston, who had seen Gray come into the Beeston Crogs Inn. He'd had some beer, then gone out again saying that he would be coming back after getting his wife a bag of shavings. Report of PC James Newton stationed at Northill who said that he had served a summons on George Gray in this matter. Gray did not appear to the summons, but absconded and a warrant was issued.
