    Folio 150d - John Butman of Horowden in the parish of Cardington, made 12 Oct. 1557, pr. 19 July 1558. Soul to almighty God, his maker and redeemer, to our lady St., Mary and to all the holy company of heaven, and burial in churchyard of Cardington. To mother church of Lincoln 2d.; to maintenance of Sepulchre light in Cardington 12d.; to the upkeep of the bells 12d.. To youngest son George Butman 2 kine, 2 steers, an undercloth, a mattress, a bolster, 2 pillows, a coverlet, a pair of blankets, a pair of flaxen sheets, a pair of sheets made of hemp, two pair of harden sheets, 2 table cloths one of them wrought with blue thread, 3 pewter platters, 3 pewter dishes, 4 saucers, a pewter saltcellar, 2 candlesticks, a brass pot, a brass pan, a kettle that will brew half a bushel of malt, an aumbry, a buffet stool, a chair, a counter table now in the tenure of George Butman of Bedford, a pair of andirons, 2 spits and 10 sheep. Testator instructs his son and heir Lenard Butman to give his brother George Butman out of testator’s freehold and copyhold lands 13s. 4d. a year during his lifetime, that is 6s. 8d. at the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, and 6s. 8d. at Ladyday, if they both live. Each to be the other’s heir. If Lenard does not pay the 13s. 4d. then George to have Leonard’s legacies, except for the land. To Margery Fage a ewe sheep. To every godchild 4d.. To wife Joane and to son Leonard the remaining years of the lease testator holds from Mr. Anthony Baldeston to be divided equally between them. Residue equally between wife and son Leonard, and they to be executors with George Butman, clerk, testator’s brother, supervisor. Wife’s son Francis Alen to have at age of 18 the £20 left him by his father. Witnesses John Bawdyne of Cardington, William Cowper, Robert Cowper of Harowden and Henry Cowper.
