- TitleFolio 130 - Thomas Gurney senior of Mylbrooke, yeoman, made 25 Nov. 1554, pr. 25 Oct. 1557. “I comende my soule unto the mercie of allmightie God to our blessed lady sanct Marie and all the holy company of heaven” and burial in the church of Mylbrooke. To the high altar there for tithes forgotten 4d.; to the mother church of Lincoln 2d.; to the mending of the high ways in the parish of Mylbrooke where most need is 5s. the work to be done within 2 years. To son Thomas Gurney £20, To him also testator’s best coat, best doublet, and best hose. To son William Gurney £5, and the next best coat, a pair of hose and a doublet. To daughter Agnes £6 13s. 4d. To daughter Joane £3 6s. 8d., if she comes to ask for the same within 4 years of testator’s death. If she does not come for it, then the money to go to son William Gurney. To every godchild 4d.. To wife Elizabethe Gurney all his copyholdings in Mylbrooke where Thomas Hill now dwells, while she remains a widow, but if she remarry then son Thomas Gurney to enter on the same copyholding. However, if she remain single and has her interest in the copyholding, on her death the property to go to son Thomas and his heirs according to custom. To Agnes and Elizabeth the daughters of William Gurney 20s.. Residue to wife Elizabeth, executrix, and Thomas Gurney executor, and Thomas to have 13s. 4d. for his work. The overseer to be William Button, he to have 10s. Witnesses John Jelis, Huge Pavy, George Lilingston, Richard Broade, William Haster.
