- TitleFolio 125 - William Stile of Woborne Chapell made 22 Sep. pr. n.d. 1557 “I do bequeath my soule to the handes of allmightie God and my body to be bured where it shall please the lord”. To the high altar of the church of Woborne 12d.. To son Robert testator’s house at Woborne with the appurtenances and also the copyhold which he bought of John Nicholes in Woborne after the custom of the manor there (the surrender of the copyholding was given to Robert Ferninge to the use of Robert Stile), and to son Robert also the lease of Presteley. To son Thomas the land at Brayffild on the Grene with the house and appurtenances in the county of Northampton; the house which testator late bought of John Spycer in Sampstell in the parish of Westenynge; also the house which testator bought of Richard Smythe late parson of Stepingly in the parish of Stepingley; also the house which testator bought of Henry Wotteyne in the parish of Eversholte; and also the lease which testator bought of Mr. Francis Boustryd in Woborne. To John “my sone at Westernynge cauled Goodales after the coustume of the maner there” [sic] and also to John the copyhold at Sampsell called Hichemans in the parish of Westenynge after the custom of the manor there. The surrender of the two copyholdings testator has given to Robert Fornynge to the use of son John Stile. Son Thomas to have all moveables, and is to pay debts and legacies, and Thomas is to have the house in Woborne with the appurtenances and also the 2 closes called Colles Cossewells for a year after testator’s death so that he will be able to save some of the moveables. To Besse £5 to be paid her at the age of 16, or on her marriage day, and Thomas to enter into a bond for this payment. “before the plate passe farthe of his owne handes, and further I do commande the forseyd Thomas to gyve and paye all suche legaces and geftes as god shall putt in to my mynde to gyve hereafter and also to delyver all suche writtinges as be in his custodie concernynge his brothers or any other”. Son Thomas to be sole executor “and he to disposse for my soule as god shall putt in his mynd” Witnesses John Smythe clerk, John Wylton, Robert [?]Furinge.
