- TitleFolio 97 - John Sparke of Flitten made 9 May pr. 15 June 1557. Soul to Almighty God, our blessed lady St. Mary and all the glorious company of heaven, and burial in churchyard of Flitten. To the high altar 2d. and to the church of Lincoln 2d.. To wife Elizabeth £20 in ready money, 4 of testator’s best kine that are at home, 4 ewes and 4 lambs as they run out of the fold. To wife also all his household stuff except for one coffer in the chamber and one table in the hall. Also to Elizabeth a house in Pulloxhill where one Smythes wife lives, this to be wife’s as long as she lives a widow. Also, after the death of testator’s father and mother, she is to have 46s. 8d. a year. To son Robert Sparke 6 kine, 2 fat oxen, a couple of drawing oxen and a couple of steers, one heifer and one bull, 9 ewes and 9 lambs, one gelding and 2 horses and £8 in money and gold, all testator’s crop except 5 roods of rye and an acre of barley which wife is to have. After death of testator’s father and mother Robert is to have all lands, tenements, meadows and pastures which were once Golstones both in possession and in revertion. Robert is also to pay out of the lands to testator’s wife Elizabeth 46s. 8d. a year . Should Robert die without male issue, then the son and heir of Henry Sparke is to have all the lands and tenements charged with the payment to any daughters of testator’s son Robert four score pounds. Should Hary Sparke have no male issue the property to pass to Robert Sparke son of Roger Sparke under the same conditions. If Robert the son of Roger Sparke die without legitimate heirs male of his body, then his brother Richard shall have all the above property under the same conditions. Should testator’s son Robert have neither sons nor daughters , then son Roberave the distribution of the sum of £80 as he thinks best. To son Robert a pole axe, a sword, a buckler, a saddle and all the cart timber and plough timber , one pair of wheels, all cart and plough harness, a plough and all that goes with it, charged with testator’s debts and his month’s mind. To his father Robert Sparke half an acre of wheat. To his mother the best cow and the best ewe lamb. To sister Joane Flynders a weaning calf. To his sister Katheryne Howsse 5s.. To sister Faithe Sparke 5s.. To Ales Goodshepe 5s.. To goddaughter Joane a ewe and a lamb. To godson Robert Flynders a ewe and a lamb. To godson Edward Helder a ewe and a lamb. All other godchildren to have 12d. each. Harry Sparke and John Flynders to have pastures called {?}Rerexoxe for their own use during the years, paying for the same £40 to Roger Sparkes children, that is to Robert, Richard and Agnes, according to the will of Roger Sparke Executors to be Harry Sparke and John Flynders, and for their work to testator’s brother Harry Sparke a grey ambling colt, and to his brother John Flynders a black “bould” colt. These two to have the governance and oversight of testator’s son Robert Sparke until he comes to the age of 21, when son to receive the properties left to him. Testator’s father Robert Sparke to be overseer. Witnesses Lewes Price vicar of Flitton cum Silsoo, Thomas Trepyne of Pulloxhill, Thomas Jones vicar of Harlington.
