    He commends his soul to the Almighty [sic] and his body to be buried in chancel in Barford by Alice his first wife, and for this he bequeaths to the vicar 6s. 8d.. To the high altar for tithes forgotten 2s., and to every godchild 8d.. His mortuary to be according to the laws of the land. To his servants Richard Bardall a good cow bullock and 5s.; to Bennet 5s.; to William Newcome 5s.; to Grey 5s.; to his servant Agnes Gardyner a cow and 40s.; and to Myllesent Flecher 40s., a cow and 6 ewe sheep. To testator’s servants at Wotton, that is to say to John Odill, Robert Wynmyll and William Dowe a ewe and a lamb each; to John Gromont, John Fookes, John Cooke, Elizabeth and Garet a cow each; to Joane Wollanston 2 ewes and 2 lambs of those that go now at Wotton. To the poor of the following towns: Barford 20s., “TReleighe” [?Thurleigh] 20s.; Powles parish in Bedford 10s.; St. Peters in the Felds in Bedford 5s.; in St. Cutbet’s parish in Bedford 3s. 4d.; in St. Mares and St. Peters being united in Bedford 5s.; and in St. John’s parish in Bedford 5s.; Goldington 10s.; Renhall 5s.; Blunham 6s. 8d.; Culmorth 5s.; Clapham 5s.; and Okeley 6s. 8d.. 40s. is to be used in Barford at the discretion of the churchwardens, constables and other honest neighbours. To William Cranfild to buy him a horse 40s.. To John Jenyver a cow or 40s.. To John Hughis of Thurley four milch kine out of those beasts that remain with him. To Agnes Yett a cow. Testator leases from the Crown a close of pasture in Wotton called Stockes Close, which lease has 8 years to run, and these are to go to his wife Agnes, but should she die before the end of the lease, then the remaining years go to testator’s son-in-law Thomas Fertclowe. To wife all his crop of corn at Wotton, and also all his horses, oxen, beasts and other cattle at Wotton, and also all his household stuff and moveable goods there. To wife for life the usage and occupation of testator’s bedstead in the parlous at Crewkers, in which testator lies, and a featherbed, bolster, blankets, pillows and pillowbeers and coverlet, and the six pairs of sheets at Crewkers for the term of her life, and on her death these to go to said Thomas Fertclowe. All the property in Barford which testator purchased of William Reysely and of Master Reginold Bray is to go to wife Agnes for her life, in satisfaction of her jointure and right of dower, and after her death to descend to Richard Fertclowe son of the said Thomas, and to Richard’s heirs and assigns. To Richard Fertclowe’s brother Thomas Fertclowe, another son of Thomas, all testator’s lands and tenements in Okeley and also the property purchased of one Bayes and of Richard Edwardes in Clapham. To Lawrence Fertclowe, a third brother, and to his heirs and assigns all testator’s property in Colmothe To John, Lawrence, and Richard Fertclowe, all three being sons of Thomas Fertclowe, and to Mary Fertclowe his daughter, £20 to each of them, and the legacy of any dying to be shared among the survivors. Residue to testator’s son–in-law Thomas Fertclowe, who is to be executor, with supervisors Master Gerard Harvey (to whom 40s. to see will executed), John Colbecke and John Francklyne (to whom 20s. each). Witnesses Thomas Wilshire, Stephen Caron of Barford and John Fletcher of Bedford.
