To high altar of Temisford 20d.; to St. Katerine’s altar 20d.; to the Trinity altar 20d.; to the bells 3s. 4d.. To his eldest daughter Agnes the wife of Richard Parken 20s. and a quarter of barley. To second daughter Christian £6 13s. 4d.; a feather bed, a mattress, 2 bolsters, 2 coverlets, a blanket and all other things belonging to 2 beds; also 2 beasts and a bullock, 10 sheep, a dozen pewter platters and dishes; testator’s cupboard standing by his bedhead. To her also one crop after testator’s death “the said yere that she ys maried in iij acres of tilth and sede to sow them that ys to say ij acres in the tilth feld and one acre in the breache feld”. To Christian also 2 brass pots, a pan, and 2 kettles, besides such things that are hers which her mother and brother know. To his third daughter Luce £6 13s. 4d.; a feather bed, a mattress, 2 bolsters, 2 coverlets, a blanket and all other things belonging to 2 beds, testator’s cupboard standing in the hall; 2 beasts and a bullock, 10 sheep, a dozen pewter platters and dishes. To Luce also 2 acres in the tilth field and one acre in the breach field, with the seed, when she is married. To her also 2 brass pots, a pan, 2 kettles, besides the things she already has of her own. To youngest daughter Alis £6 13s. 4d. Testator’s son Richard and his heirs are to give Alis every year after her marriage 5s. charged on testator’s tenement in Church End in Temisford Should any of youngest daughters die before they are married, then their legacies to be divided between the survivors. Should all die, then legacies are to be divided between son Richard and daughter Agnes. To son Richard’s three children 2 ewes and a lamb hog, and to daughter Agnes’ 3 children 2 ewes and a lamb hog. To every godchild 4d.. To godchildren John Cowper of Gamlingaye, Thomas Colbeke, John Colbeke and Thomas Spring a bushel of barley each. The table in the hall and the ark in the over solar and another in the over chamber and one in the “bakhowse” are to remain as heirlooms and standards to be annexed to the house for ever. When the time comes for the 3 daughters to be married, if wife Jhoan and son Richard do not have enough money to pay the legacies, then they are to sell such groves of wood and underwood as they need. To wife all household stuff and linen that remain unsold after all children are married. To son Richard all land and tenements, meadows, feedings and pastures in Temisford, saving wife’s right of dowry during her lifetime. The crop the year after his death to be divided between them, and grain divided by the bushel. Son Richard to harrow, plough and sow to use of wife all her thirds and dowry land, and she is to keep a boy during her widowhood. Grain to be divided for her thirds. To Richard a great brass pot, and three horses. To wife 3 beasts , 2 steers and 2 horses. To poor people in Temisford 20s. to be given them before testator’s burial To the “povertie” in parishes of Sandey, Blonham, Roxton and Berkford 20d. a parish to be given to the churchwardens. Residue to wife and son Richard, who are to be executors, with overseer Master Colebeke, he to have 6s. 8d.. Witnesses Thomas Bais, Thomas Spring, Richard Spring, William Langhorn. Note of a codicil made 2 or 3 days before his death to clarify the bequest of the horses left to son and wife, and the corn left to the wife of Richard Parken and Thomas Staplo, and of corn to his godchildren. The horses to wife Jhoan are the dusty dun-coloured colt and the sorrel, and the horses to son Richard are one dun, one gray, and the third a brown with a bald face. The bequests of corn to be taken out of the next year’s crop. Witnesses William Langhorne, the wife of William Chamber, Margerie Dingle and Agnes Spring.
