    Folio 47 - John Cheny of Harrold, made 8 July 3 & 4 P. & M. [?1555] “and also doe write yt with my owne hand”. Pr. 25 Feb. 1556/7 “I bequeth my soulle to allmightye god to our blessid Ladye Sanct Marie and to all the blessid company of heaven” and burial where it shall please God. To the mother church of Lincoln 4d. To wife remainder of his lease of the farm in Hertfordshire called Yarleyburie and the parsonage belonging to it that testator holds of the Dean and Chapter of “Poles” in London, which is now in the occupation of Mr. John Cornwell (who married testator’s sister in law Mistress Joan Verneye the wife of testator’s brother in law Mr. John Verneye). To wife also the remainder of testator’s lease of the parsonage of Harrold and the leases testator holds by indenture in Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. To wife also all his goods and chattles and all moveables and household stuff. To wife testator’s farm called The Mowse and all lands and tenements now in the tenure of Hughe Bachelar now farmer of the same. To her also the lands and tenements in the occupation of William Willott called Harfreys, and also the farm called the Plowelandes with all lands and tenements that are in the tenure or occupation of John Gates now the farmer of the same. To her also all the lands and tenements in the tenure of Richard Grover and William Weydon. All the above to go to wife for her natural life according to the last will of testator’s father. On his wife’s death he leaves various legacies to his old servants: Edmund Wodmanseye £4;Francis Woodmansei £4; John Barton £3; Henry Brierlye £3; Nicholas Ping and William Haylle £3 each, all to be paid by testator’s executors. Also to Newson 40s.; to Roger More 40s.; to Henry Haille 20s.; to John Grene 20s.; John Blacke 40s.; Besse Markes 20s.. To every house in Harrold that does not have a plough a bushel of malt. To the upkeep of the bridge in Harrold 40s.. To each godchild in Harrold 4d. After death of testator and wife to Edmund Faukner £20 to be paid by discretion of executors. After death of himself and his wife he wishes that his servants shall have meat, drink and lodging for one whole year, and to be paid by executors 40s.each both men and women, who are to continue to perform their usual services. The provision of meat, drink and lodging in the house at Harrold to cover both husbandmen servants and maids and serving men. Sole executrix wife Mistress Jane Cheneye, with supervisors his nephew Sir Richard Verney knight, Master Pole Darroll, his friend Master John Mores’ of Winge.
