Folio 10d - Peter Carre, alderman of Bedford, made 7 Aug pr. 7 Aug. 1556 [sic] “I most humbly Commend my sowle in to the mercyfull handes of allmighty God our blessid Lady S. Marye and all the holy company of heaven” and burial in the church of St. Paul. 8d. each to the vicar of S. Poules, the Master of Saynt Joanes and the parson of S. Cutberd “to pray for my sowle and all Christiane Sowles and to say the holy suffrages of the church at my buryall”. To every bedesman at the day of testator’s burial 4d. to pray for his soul and all Christian souls. All his goods to go to his wife Sysylye who is executrix. To be given to the very poor people of St. Paules parish in Bedford on his burial day 6s. 8d.. To Mr. Blakewarle of Wanden’ 5s. and he to be supervisor. Residue to wife after “my bodye brought on earth as a Christian manes body ought to be with the holy suffrages of the holye church”. Witnesses Mr. Grene schoolmaster, Mr. Richard Gardlane, Peter Harwy “per me Peter Carre”.
