Occurrence Report of PC Eli Bayes stationed at Henlow. He was on duty at Henlow when he saw Samuel Burgess, 42 and William Pearse, 13, both of Pirton, Herts, leave the Crown Inn, Henlow, kept by Edweard Tingey. Burgess and Pearse were both drunk and in charge of a horse and cart each which had been standing at the Crown Inn for about two and a half hours. There was a third horse and cart in charge of Samuel Lake, 14. The 3 horses and carts belonged to William Wood, Farmer of Pirton, Herts. PC Bayes told Burggess to be very careful as the boy Pearse was so drunk. Pearse mounted the horse and had not gone far when he fell off. PC Bayes ran to his assistance, Burgess was too drunk to render any assistance. With the help of Samuel Lake, PC Bayes took Pearse home in one of the carts and told Lake to look after Burgess' cart as well. Burgess Fine 19/-. Costs 11/- or 1 month.
