Letter from Joseph Hammond of Galley Lane Farm, Great Brickhill, Bletchley [Buckinghamshire] to Mr. Hobourn… ‘Galley Lane rent is £370 & 20£ more for two new cottages, we occupied them yesterday, first time, Mrs. H. receives 40£ from Mr. Webster less 1£ he pays taxes. I am insured against accidents for £1000. I find we have paid Messrs Rowlands bill, on Oct 24th/02 enclose you both did not find it until last night. Mr. Wigley has sent cheque for both sales of grass keeping at Fenny viz £133.16.0. It will be no good your coming to divide it until you know what taxes we shall have to pay will it, perhaps you will suggest something’.
