Copy affidavit of Charles Wynn of Aspley Heath, Beds, gentleman: - in about June 1910 I agreed with the plaintiffs to carry out certain works in connection with the sewerage and water supply of several houses belonging to me situate in the Parishes of Aspley Heath Beds and Woburn Sands Bucks and also to make certain other alterations with regard to Orchard Cottage; - after the works had been completed I received an account from the Plaintiffs claiming the sum of £175.14.6 but I wasn’t satisfied with the amount charged or with the way that the work had been carried out; - I consulted an Architect and Surveyor (Mr Leonard Foster of Flitwick) to look into the works on my behalf; - Mr. Foster advised me that the work had not been carried out in a good and workmanlike manner and that the amount charged was excessive and he on my instructions offered £55 without prejudice to settle the matter. This amount was not accepted; - I received a letter from Messrs Halliley & Morrison, plaintiff’s solicitors… and they threaten that unless the amount claimed be paid they would feel at liberty to proceed for the full amount; - I believe that I am indebted to the Plaintiffs in the sum of £55 and no more, less a sum of £10.16.0. which the Plaintiffs owe to me for Board and Lodging particulars. - drawn up by Tanqueray of Woburn, defendant’s solicitor.
