Letter from John Circuitt Shaw of Cape Town [South Africa] to Samuel Foulger… ‘I hereby authorize and empower you, as I have already done by a power of attorney, dated the 4th October 1843 to receive any money which may be due and owing to me, arising out of the sale of certain cottages at Wooburn, which have been purchased by the Duke of Bedford. Being much in want of money I trust that no unnecessary delay may take place in the settlement of this matter. Any thing and every thing which you may do to facilitate the settlement, I engage fully to ratify and confirm, so far as in me lies [signed John Circuitt Shaw]. - includes declaration by John Alfred Merrington of Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope, notary public.
