    Agreement to build a parish workhouse Parties: (i) George Bosworth and Henry Clark, churchwardens of the Parish of Woburn, Beds and Henry Hatton, overseer of the poor for the said parish; (ii) Thomas Edmonds of Woburn, bricklayer. Operative: - (ii) agrees to build a workhouse to the detailed specifications included; - (i) agrees to pay (ii) £7/10/- a rod for all the work under two foot from the ground floor; - (i) agrees to pay (ii) £100 when the first story of the workhouse has been built; - (i) agrees to pay (ii) £100 when the roof has been tiled. - mentions the Duke of Bedford who has given 1000 foot of timber for the building of the workhouse. - signed by George Bosworth, Henry Clarke and Henry Hatton [his mark]; - witnessed and signed by William Cuthbert and H.M.Turner; - reverse signed by several of the principal inhabitants and townsmen of Woburn: William Green, Joseph Harris, Marmaduke Sinfield, John Smith, Robert Ramsay, Joseph Hill, John Scarborough, John Burrows, John Whorlett and Roger Brookes.
