Giving & devising: - wearing apparel unto my sister Elizabeth the wife of Mark West; - copyhold messuage or tenement where I now live with backhouse and outbuildings holden of the Manor of [Woburn] Abbotts and all personal estate unto my brother Mark West of Dunstable, Beds, innholder upon trust to sell, invest and put income towards the maintenance of my brother William West of Woburn; if deceased, then profits to be applied as follows: - £10 each to nephews John Barratt and Thomas Barratt of Woburn, blacksmiths and Richard Barratt of same place, cordwainer; - £10 each to nieces Ann, wife of William Hatton of Saint Gyles in the Fields [Middlesex], sword kilt maker and Sarah West of Woburn, spinster; - remaining profits between nephews John West of Aspley, Beds, farmer and William West of Grays Inn [London], gentleman; - … ‘and whereas the sum of thirty pounds is due to me on a promissory note given by my late brother Charles West deceased bearing date the twenty eighth day of August 1787’. - appointing Mark West sole executor; - intended to be witnessed and signed by John Thornton, Oliver Oxley and Clarke Watkins. Endorsed with copy codicil dated 5th Feb 1802 whereby nephew John Barrat is since deceased and the £10 legacy should therefore be divided between nephews Richard and Thomas Barrat. - ‘proved at Doctors Commons the 25th of Nov 1808’.
