- TitleMarriage Settlement Parties: (i) Mary Gale of Woburn, Beds, spinster; (ii) Stephen Taylor of Woburn, Beds, wheelwright (iii) Samuel Davis of Leighton Buzzard, Beds, gentleman and Thomas Gale of Ampthill, Beds, brazier. Reciting: - (i) stands seized of (c-g) according to the custom of the Manor of Woburn Abbotts; Operative: - in consideration of the intended marriage and the proposed surrender of copyhold property, (ii) conveys (a) to (iii) and (i) conveys (b) to (iii) - (i) and (ii) agree to surrender (c-g) unto Samuel Davis within one month after the intended marriage; Property: (a) messuage or tenement at Woburn near the market place with the messuage of Robert Carey being on one side, now in the occupation of (ii); (b) two closes of meadow or sward ground in Woburn known as Barn Close and Corn Close, now in the occupation of Mansfield; (c) messuages, cottages or tenements in George Street, Woburn now in the several occupations of William Granborough, Henry Dodd, widow Dawborne and Elizabeth Barlow; (d) Two messuages or tenements and a bakehouse situate at the horsefair in Woburn now in the several occupations of Edward Mansfield, Baker and Serjant Lothrem; (e) close of meadow lying near Castle Lane, Woburn now in the tenure or occupation of Samuel Turvey; (f) close of meadow or pasture ground in Woburn called Little Castle now in the occupation of Reverend William Aveling; (g) another close lying in Woburn in the occupation of Thomas Butler. Habendum: - (iii) to hold (a) to the use of (ii) until the intended marriage; - after to the use of (ii) for his natural life; - after his decease to the use of (i) if she survives him; - after the death of the survivor of them, to the use of the right heir of (ii); - (iii) to hold (b) to the use of (i) until the intended marriage; - after to the use of (ii) for his natural life; - after his decease to the use of (i) if she survives him; - after the death of the survivor of them, to the use of any children born between (i) and (ii). - Samuel Davis to hold (c-g) according to the same trusts outlined for (b). Covenants: - (i) and (ii) to retain certain powers of sale over (a-b). - signed by (i), (ii) and (iii); - witnessed and signed by Preston, John Preston and Samuel Davis, junior.
