Report of Police Sergeant Thomas Vincent, stationed at Potton. He was on duty on the highway from Biggleswade to Potton at about 1.50am when he saw Jacob Brittain, labourer of Potton, coming out of a field, which is in the occupation of Mr Joseph Edwards of Potton, adjoining the highway with a rabbit in a trap in his hand. Brittain said he heard it 'holla' and went into Mr Thomas Kefford's garden to fetch it, Mr Kefford 'gave him leave'. When questioned Mr Kefford denied giving Brittain leave to fetch rabbits in traps off his land. Letter dated 8 March 1876 from Mr kefford states that he did give Jacob Brittain leave to go into Mr Kefford's garden if a rabbit was caught and to take it out, as he was unable to do so. Fine 11/6, costs 8/6 or 14 days.
