Letter from Hugh Cumberland of John Cumberland & Sons, auctioneers of Luton, Beds to F.T. Tanqueray, esquire concerning the estate of F.J. Coleman, deceased… 'The gross amount realised by the sale of furniture was £420/7/- from this has to be deducted our commission, expenses and cost of moving, hire of Plait Hall, and insuring the goods while in the Hall, which comes to £40/2/-, the balance being £380/5/- Out of this £25 goes to the Childrens Home, £25 to the Vicar and Churchwardens of Christ Church (both these amounts have been paid) and the balance after paying the duty, goes to the Bute Hospital. As I have some money in hand I should be glad if you would let me know the amount of the duty so that the payment can be made'… 'P.S. who has the probate of will? If it is in London will you let me know the date of it'.
