- TitleMarriage Settlement, release Parties: (i) Mary Gale of Woburn, Beds, spinster; (ii) Stephen Taylor of Woburn, Beds, wheelwright; (iii) Samuel Davis of Leighton Buzzard, Beds, gentleman and Thomas Gale of Ampthill, Beds, brazier. Reciting: - Intended marriage between (i) and (ii). First operative part: - In consideration of intended marriage (ii) confirms (a) unto (iii). Property: (a) Messuage or tenement at Woburn near the market place now in the occupation of (i), bounded on one side by the messuage or tenement of Robert Carey and the other side by the messuage or tenement of John Thorton. First habendum part: - Unto (iii) to the use of (ii) until said marriage; - after, to the use of (ii) for his natural life; - after his decease, to the use of (i) if survives (ii); - after death of survivor of (i) and (ii), to the use of the right heir of (ii) forever. Second operative part: - In consideration of the intended marriage (i) confirms (b) unto (iii). Property: (b) Two closes of meadow and sward ground in Woburn known as Barn Close and Corn Close of 8a now in the tenure or occupation of Edward Mansfield. Second habendum part: - Unto (iii) to the use of (i) until said marriage; - after, to the use of (ii) for his natural life; - after his decease, to the use of (i) if survives (ii); - after death of survivor of (i) and (ii), to the use of any children of the intended marriage; - in default of such issue, to the use of whoever (i) has previously appointed; - in default of such appointment, to the use of the right heirs of (i) for ever. Third operative part: - (i) stands seized of (c-f) according to the custom of the manor of Woburn Abbotts; - (i) and (ii) surrender (c-f) to the use of (iii). (c) copyhold cottages at George Street, Woburn now in the several tenures or occupations of William Granborough, Henry Dodd, widow Dowborne and Elizabeth Barlow; (d) Two messuages or bakehouses near the horse fair, Woburn now in the several tenures or occupations of Edward Mansfield, Baker and Serjant Lethrem; (e) Close of meadow or pasture ground lying near Castle Lane, Woburn now in the tenure or occupation of Samuel Turvey; (f) Close of meadow or pasture ground in Woburn called Little Castle and now in the tenure or occupation of Rev. William Aveling; (g) Close in Woburn in the tenure or occupation of Thomas Butler. Third habendum part: - Unto (iii) subject to the same uses and trusts which (b) is settled. Covenants: - (i) and (ii) retain certain power to sell (a-b) and appoint new trustees; - (i) and (ii) have certain power to lease (a-g). - signed by (i), (ii) and (iii); - witnessed and signed by Molley Preston, John Preston and Samuel Davis, junior.
