Inside the front cover is a printed notice - 'Howard Chapel. Rules of the Church'. The volume is published by the Congregational Union and is divided into sections.
'Introductory Historical Account of the Church'. Contains brief history taken from a magazine, c.1840? A Bedfordshire Times article written the centenary year 1875. Copy of Thomas Binney's resignation, 1824. Letter from Joshua Symonds, Minister of The Old [or Bunyan] Meeting relating to a Church Meeting at which it was resolved 'your connexion with us is now dissolved', 3 Nov. 1773. Letter to Mary Campkin, signed by six Deacons of Bunyan Meeting suspending her from Communion because she has joined the New Meeting, 1773. Letter from T. Birt to Mr Bigrave, re. fees for his wife's churching "which dues Dissenters are not excused from paying by the Toleration Act", 1775. Note on the ordination of the Rev. Thos. Smith as first Minister of the Chapel, 1775. Copy of John Prole's certificate as a Member of the Presbyterian Church, Lymington, 1779. Also accompanying letter and a copy of the certificate. Prole was Howard's farm bailiff at Cardington. Birth and baptism notice of Ann Prole, born 15 Oct 1779, baptised March, 1780. Letter from a member 'J.D.' Could be Jane Dew - see X420/3/2 to the Rev. Thos Smith resigning, on account of 'uncomon looness & gloomeyness of Spirets came upon me ..... when ever I atempted to come to meeting', n.d., c.1780? Notice re. monument to Mr. Howard in St. Paul's Cathedral - newspaper cutting from the General Evening Post, 1791, it includes a list of subscribers. Note from Mrs Costin resigning her membership, 1791.
