Occurrence Report from PC Eli Bayes stationed at Biggleswade. He went with PC Cain to the lodging of Arthur Chessum in Potton Road to ask him about a watch that had been stolen from George Buckingham, Timekeeeper, outside the White Hart Inn. George Buckingham thought that the 'girl' Chamberlain had stolen it from his pocket. Geroge Buckingham had been passing the White Hart Inn and saw Arthur Chessum, Mary Ann Austin and Ann Chamberlain. The girls asked him what he was going to 'stand'. He said he would 'stand' a 'pot of sixpenny' which they drank between them. Chessum then sent the jug to be filled up with ale again. They all then walked down the street. Chessum was staggering about putting him arms round Buckingham's waist. Chamberlain was on Buckingham's left, Austin and Chessum on the right. When they were near the Half Moon someone mentioned time and when Buckingham looked for his watch he found it had disappeared. When he looked around he found that Chessum had disappeared. He took the girls to the Police Station where they were searched. When PC Eli Bayes asked Chessum about the watch he produced it off the table and said he found it in his pocket
