    Information and application of Martha Shepherd of Biggleswade, that George Rook is the father of her bastard male child. Summons issued by John Harvery and Sir John Montagu Burgoyne Barnet, Justices of the Peace, against George Rook. Declaration by Martha Shepherd that she had known George Rook for about 3 years and that he courted her until she was '7 months gone'. She stated that he had 'connection' with her on 14 February. Declaration by Lucy Newman, wife of John Alfred Newman. She had known Martha Shepherd and George Rook for about 3 years and had seen them together 'having connection' on 30 January 1874. Declaration of Elizabeth Shepherd, wife of Henry Shepherd and mother of Martha Shepherd. She knew that her daughter had been aquainted with George Rook for about 3 years. He had been to the house and her daughter had been to his father's house. Declaration by Elizabeth Ashwell that Martha Ashwell had told her that 14 February 1874 was the first time George Rook had 'connection' with her and that if the child came before the 14 November it would not be his. Declaration of Jane Ball that Martha Shepherd told her that she had 'connection' with a Sutton young man a fortnight before she had with George Rook. He was charged to pay 1/6 per week until the child was 13 and 1/- costs.
