Information of Jacob Chambers, Market Gardener of Langford, who stated that he had returned from London at 9.55pm and called in at his brother's at Henlow at about 10.30pm. His brother, Isaac Chambers, was the keeper of the Brewhouse Inn. He stood at the bottom of the stairs talking to his brother when there was a knock on the door. Mrs Chambers opened the door and saw a man standing outside. Jacob Chambers asked the man what he wanted and told him he ought to be home and in bed. The man refused to leave and said it was a public thoroughfare. Jacob Chambers warned him that his brother would order him off. The man said 'We'll see' and pulled something from under his coat and struck at Jacob Chambers. He saw the blow coming and moved, the blow came on his shoulder. He then found that the man had used a piece of iron. Jacob Chambers threw the man down and held him until the Police Constable came. Police Constable George Dixon heard cries of murder and went to the Brewhouse Inn where he found the prisoner on the ground with Jacob Chambers over him. Mr Chambers had blood running down his face. The man was George Braybrooks. Magistrates Clerk's Fees 9/6. Sentence 1 month
