  • Title
    George Tomlinson, Police Constable stationed at Stotfold, apprehended William Albone of Arlesey, employed by George Howkes of Arlesey, at his aunt's (Mrs Rainbow) house and took him to the Lock Up. He charged him with obtaining goods by false pretences from Mr Simeon Folbigg, Grocer of Arlesey . Sarah Ann Folbigg, his daughter, stated that on 20 July William Albone asked for 2oz peppermints for the 'Mrs', she assumed to be Mrs Hawkes. On 21 July, and several other occasions, he went into the shop and obtained sweets. He did not pay for them. He said Mrs Hawkes had been very ill and wanted sweets. William Albone stated that he gave some of the sweets that he pinched from Folbiggs and Levitts to Jonah Houghton and Randall Brown . Albert Albone asked him for some of the sweets when he was in the road opposite the Cock Beerhouse.
