Claim by J.W.Ridgway of Chaul End Farm, Caddington. JWR was evicted from the farm, the - property of the Trustees of Francis Crawley (Deceased), due to the poor state of cultivation, the tenancy passing to A.G.Powdrill. JWR made a claim against the landlords for £751/19/3 which passed to arbitration by Frank John Brown of Tring [Hertfordshire] who awarded JWR £512/17/10 to be paid by the landlord and awarded the landlord £520/3/6 to be paid by JWR. JWR then made a claim against the War Agricultural Committee for £229/5/9 and settled for an out of court ex gratia payment from the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries of £75 for the inconvenience of his eviction. A later claim by the representatives of Charles Helion Dieudonné, Comte de Rotalier for unpaid rent arising from A.G.Powdrill's tenancy was refuted by Bedfordshire County Council. The file includes, in addition to correspondence, the following documents: - lease to JWR of 21 Apr 1910; - original claim of JWR; - catalogue of sale of live and dead farming stock from Chaul End Farm; - statement of details of JWR's claim, practically an inventory of the property [ex WAV 9]
