Draft statement of Simeon Copperwheat of Ampthill, Beds grocer: - I am well acquainted with the property now owned by the plaintiff & the defendant & have known it for upwards of 30 years; - & well remember the old cottage standing on the property now owned by the plaintiff & it being offered for sale by public auction by the then owner Mr. C.W. Burge on the 15th July 1886; - The cottage was then in the occupation of one John Barrett - He was a Tailor and lived in the house for many years; - Barrett used to work in the kitchen of the cottages & I have been in this room on may occasions as I was a Tailor at that time; - I have seen the lithographed plan of the property comprised in the sale of 1886 & so far as I can tell the plan appears to be correct; - The old cottage was pulled down by the Plaintiff in or about 1899 when the present house was erected; - I am well aquatinted with this house & have seen all five windows which overlook the Plaintiff's property & have no hesitation in saying that three of them are totally new lights & the other two are quite different in shape & size from the old ones.
