- Production dateFrom: 1908 To: 1908
- Scope and Content- On the 31st August 1903 I purchased from Charles Wells of Bedford a piece of land with a messuage or beerhouse thereon known as the 'White Horse' situate in Dunstable Street Ampthill adjoining the property belonging to the Plaintiff; - Immediately on my purchasing the property I erected a hoarding against certain lights in the Plaintiff's house overlooking this property as from information I obtained & came to the conclusion that the lights were an encroachment on the rights. The Plaintiff did not complain of the erection; - In Dec[embe]r 1906 in consequence of certain alterations I was having made to my property I pulled down the fence which I erected in 1903 & erected the present hoarding & at the same time I pulled down a piece of party wall & erected the present piece of wall; - Shortly after my purchase of the White Horse premises the Plaintiff through his agent Mr. Douglas Stratford of Luton approached me and offered his property to me; - The negotiations continued until 1905 when they ended because I would not give the Plaintiff the price he asked for the property of £900 as I considered the outside value was £700; - The fish shop was never opened & on the 6th January 1907 I received a letter from the Plaintiffs sol[icito]r. This is the first intention I received of the Plaintiff claiming ancient lights or that I had trespassed on his property.
