Copy letter from John Gates of Castle Street, Luton to Mr. J. Rushbrooke of Ampthill, Beds, draper... 'I have been consulted by Mr Alfred Woodland the owner of property adjoining yours at Ampthill with reference to the removal by you of the boundary wall belonging to him in front of his house and the re-erection by you of another wall. I must ask you to be good enough to furnish me with some explanation for this act of trespass as it seems as unreasonable proceeding to take without Mr. Woodlands permission or consent. I am also requested to inform you that he objects to the fence you have erected to the height of about 20 feet opposite to his scullery window and within a few feet of his property as it causes a serious diminution of the light to his house. I have to request you to remove at one such portion of the fence as causes of the obstruction to the access of light to his windows'.
