  • Title
    Alys Levereche of Leighton Bosard, widow, made 25 October 1539. No note of probate. Burial in churchyard of Leighton . First, she wishes to state how much debt she is in for the bequests and legacies which were laid out in her late husband's will, that is to say to the reparations of Leighton church 3s. 4d.; to the upkeep of the Brotherhed of Corpus Christi 6s. 8d.; for 4 pounds of wax and 3 quarters now to be bestowed by the advice of the ordinary, also 40d. to be spent every year in the "embreng' " week of Lent, to keep an obit for the soul of John Leveriche (her late husband) and for her own soul and the souls of all Christians for the next 15 years, and all of these are to be performed out of her goods. After this has been done, then out of her remaining goods she leaves to the mother church of Lincoln 2d.; her mortuary is to be as customary; to the high altar of Leighton 4d.; to an honest priest 10s. to sing a trental for the souls of her husband, herself and all Christians in the church of Leighton. To her servant Elzabeth Stanley a featherbed ( the best except one) which is lying in the loft over her parlour, with the bolster. To her also a pair of sheets, a green coverlet, a table with a coffer joined to it, also a little coffer, an old ambry, a two gallon brass pot, a five gallon brass pan, a latten laver, a candlestick, a chafing dish, a latten basin, 2 platters, 2 pewter dishes, and all these goods are to be in place of the wages that testator owes her for her service for the time she has been with testator. If Elzabeth Stanley does not agree to this, then the executors are to keep the goods, and pay her what she is owed "unto hir covenaunt". Residue to executors William Sheperd of Lyttell Cote in Buckeinghamshyre (to whom a noble that she owes him, and a maser for his labour) and Robert Scrogges of Leighton (to whom 6s. 8d. and two silver spoons) Witnesses sir Thomas the Brotherhed priest, Robert [?]Baysley, Thomas Wamleysley.
