Scope and Content
"Furst I bequeth my soull to Allmeghtie God and to the blessed virgen sanct Mary and to all the holy compeny of heven" and burial in the churchyard of All Sanctes in Howghton. To the church for tithes forgotten 4d.; to the poor men's box 4d..
To son Richard and daughter Margery 6 quarter of barley each out of next year's crop, Richard's share to be given to testator's father Richard Hawkyn to be used for the boy until he is able "to occupye it hem selfe". Margery's share is to be given to testator's father in law, John Clarke, to use for her profit.
To son Richard the best bay horse, a ewe sheep and 2 pewter platters, and testator's best brass pot. To daughter Margery the brown heifer, a ewe sheep, 2 pewter platters and a kettle that belonged to testator. Should either child die under lawful age, the other to be heir. If both die, then their shares to go to their mother. To testator's sister Agnes 20d.
Residue to wife Alys. Executors to be his father Richard Hawkyn and father-in-law John Clarke, with William Strange supervisor.
